Runner of the Month: Rachel Shepherd Interview

This month, we’re shining the spotlight on the wonderful Rachel Shepherd - one of our most dedicated RLJ members and a true Early Birds regular.

Rachel’s positivity, consistency, and love for running (and the occasional swim!) have made her such an inspiring part of our community. We sent Rachel a few questions to find out more about her journey with RLJ…

Q: What first inspired you to start running?
Rachel: I started running to keep fit and give myself a bit of structure. I loved the idea of joining a friendly group, and RLJ gave me exactly that; the support, the variety, and the motivation to keep showing up.

Q: You’re a familiar face at our Early Birds sessions, what keeps you coming back week after week?
Rachel: It’s honestly the best way to start a Friday! The group is so friendly, and I always leave the session feeling energised and ready for the day. The routine keeps me consistent, and the lovely sunrises help too.

Q: What do you enjoy most about being part of RLJ?
Rachel: The community. Everyone is so welcoming and encouraging, no matter your pace or experience. It’s such a supportive environment, and I’ve made great friends through running.

Q: Do you have a favourite RLJ moment so far?
Rachel: There have been so many, but I think some of the Run & Swim sessions really stand out. There’s something special about finishing a run and jumping into the lake with everyone, it’s so refreshing and a real bonding experience!

Q: What would you say to someone who’s thinking about joining RLJ but is a bit nervous?
Rachel: Just come along. Honestly, everyone is so kind and supportive. You don’t have to be fast or experienced, just willing to give it a go. You’ll surprise yourself with what you can achieve.

A huge well done to Rachel for being such a brilliant example of consistency, positivity, and community spirit. We’re so lucky to have you as part of RLJ, keep flying the flag for Early Birds!
